About Brook Lane – North Village

Brook Lane – North Village in Hagerstown, Maryland, is the home of InSTEP, Brook Lane’s specialized drug rehab treatment program. Held five days a week, levels of care include outpatient and intensive outpatient support for adults of all ethnicities and walks of life.

All clients must be assessed before beginning treatment to determine which level of care would be most suitable for their needs. For example, clients taking part in Brook Lane’s outpatient program can expect a person centered approach involving specialized life skills education, relapse prevention and cravings management. 60-minute sessions are held throughout each day and occasionally in the evenings for added convenience.

For clients in need of further support, Brook Lane offers an intensive outpatient program. Clients receive group therapy tailored to meet the needs of those with concurrent substance abuse and mental health issues. Through integrated support, clients learn symptom management and life skills through educational discussions, lectures and resources. They also engage in relapse prevention. Sessions are held from 9 am until 12 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Clients can expect to move up to outpatient care after completing the initial phase of intensive outpatient treatment.

Brook Lane accepts Aetna, Medical Assistance, CareFirst, Cigna, Quest and USFHP. They are in negotiations regarding other insurance companies. Clients are advised to clarify coverage with their insurance provider regarding out of network benefits. Alternative funding is also available for those in need by way of financial assistance applications, payment plans or Maryland Medical Assistance.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients who are leaving inpatient rehab often choose to transition into an intensive outpatient program (IOP) to receive high-level support as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Intensive outpatient rehab also benefits those at risk of relapse. Clients typically participate in nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly, with modalities ranging from psychotherapy to addiction and recovery education. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) and complementary care, such as nutrition counseling, and acupuncture.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically partner with their case manager and care team to identify and access the services that best align with their recovery needs and goals. Rehab aftercare services are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs to promote their long-term sobriety. Care modalities are highly customized and may include a range of medical, mental health, and social service resources, including peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs provide accessible peer coaching for participants at all stages of their recovery journey. Meetings are peer-led, anonymous, free, and available multiple times per day in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected sponsor. 12 step recovery is based on spiritual principles, which enable participants to understand their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and relinquish control over that which is unchangeable. Religious affiliation isn't required and specialized formats are available.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Most sober living homes in Maryland are located in peaceful, quiet neighborhoods. These private residences are designed to offer a low-stress but structured environment where residents can focus on their ongoing recovery efforts and receive support to maintain sobriety. Several individuals, all of whom are in recovery, share the halfway house. This type of communal living helps decrease relapse, increase employment rates, and helps individuals hone their recovery skills.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

If you think a loved one needs help with substance abuse, but they are not seeking treatment, it may be time for a drug intervention in Maryland. Intervention services can help you with this effort. During the intervention, loved ones share how their addiction-related behavior has affected them and encourage the individual to get treatment. The intervention specialist helps facilitate the conversation and explain how treatment can help.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term intensive rehab option designed to provide treatment during the day and you're able to return home at night. PHP treatment offers structured programming, including individual and group therapy, typically meeting 3-5 days a week for 6-8 hours per day. PHP duration averages around 90 days, with some programs offering amenities like transportation and meals.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

For intensive-level rehab treatment, 24-hour clinical care in Maryland is an essential tool. Medical staff are available around the clock to supervise the process, which involves cleansing the body of toxins. Close supervision is necessary due to the potential risks of withdrawal symptoms. Medical experts on-site are available to prescribe medications and other forms of treatment to address these symptoms and ensure a safe detox process.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Quitting drugs and alcohol on your own can cause uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects caused by the withdrawal process. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will monitor your health, provide medication for potential withdrawal symptoms, and work to keep you safe and comfortable. Most people transition to an inpatient program or a maintenance program that uses medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Four key principles guide motivational interviewing. These are empathy, self efficacy, rolling with resistance, and developing discrepancy. These techniques allow the client to examine their motivations for change, identify discrepancies in their current situation and future goals, and feel empowered to make changes to reach their goals.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

The focus of trauma therapy is to heal the emotional wounds that occurred when you witnessed or experienced a traumatic event. Therapy helps you process this trauma emotionally and mentally so you develop healthier coping skills and improve your quality of life.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

I have tried to go off medicine just so I would not have to go there anymore. Trying to speak to anyone via phone is frustrating because you end up in endless loops and no questions resolved

I would happily like to update the fact that she no longer works there. That's a great blessing. My son told his awful therapist exactly what she wanted to hear and committed suicide. He was so much smarter than she was. Huge disappointment. She had to say a cuss word every other word out of her mouth, she was very unprofessional. He was of age so she couldn't speak to us, as parents but in all honesty she was a mom hater. Dad would pick him up and she would speak to him for an hour.

I was a patient here for a very long time, and the therapist I was paired with after my evaluation was extremely helpful, kind, and understanding the whole time I was one of her clients. HOWEVER, the front desk employees almost all the time had no clue what they were doing. Most of the time when I went for in office appointments, they just didn t tell my therapist I had checked in. Some of them are extremely rude. The front desk staff definitely made my experience less than ideal, and I was more than glad to switch to strictly Zoom appointments just to avoid having to deal with the front desk.

If you are looking for pediatric psychiatrists, don t go to brooklane. My child has been seen here since the age of 4 and when I say nothing has changed I mean that. We have been at this for 5 years! Brooklane s staff is rude and unprofessional 99 percent of the time. I can never get in contact with anyone, and I truly feel as though my child is just another $$ for them. I m so embarrassed of the treatment our child has received. Please, reconsider bringing your child here.

I was a patient at this establishment last year, i had an appointment at 2pm to be reestablished as a patient and called in advance to let them know that due to traffic i would make it about 15 minutes late, they said that it s fine and as long as i was there by 2:15 that i would still be seen. i walked in at 2:13 and it took them 3 minutes to come to the desk to talk to me and at that point they told me i had missed my appointment and i couldn t be given my hour slot to see her which wouldn t have even taken an hour because i was already established as a patient before and i just wanted to be put back on my meds, Dawn Jenkins is a joke who cares more about 45 minutes of sitting at her desk doing nothing than actually helping people. do. not. go. here.

A horrible facility. Forces medication AND longer stays for people who do not need it. Make patients feel like they can t fully open up because they will be treated like an animal. Disgusting food which makes it harder to eat for patients with eating disorders. Takes parents words over the children. Does not listen to patients. Harsh punishments, can be put into isolation for being rude to staff members or not talking even when they deserve it. I hope you respond to this.

If you would feel comfortable sharing more details of your experience with a patient advocate, please call 301-733-0331 x1720 at your earliest convenience and they would be happy to look into your situation. They are here to advocate on your behalf. We strive to set our patients up with the best tools to help them navigate their mental health and then get them back home to their loved ones as soon as possible. It does not benefit Brook Lane or the patients to keep them here longer than they need to be. The mental health needs of this community are immense and our beds are often full. It benefits us, the patients and the community to discharge patients as soon as medically safe to do so.

This place is an absolute joke. The process of trying to get an appointment for my child has been unnecessarily difficult. It s nothing but unanswered voicemail after unanswered voicemail.

Several attempts at this facility over the course of many years and if it isn't disappointment in the psychiatrists it's the therapists. Most recent experience being within last several months. Do not feel like counselor I sought out (based off positive reviews) knew how to help me or even wanted to. They seemed distracted by personal problems with excuses for no treatment plan after 4 visits. I never felt comfortable expressing myself.. The only real positive to me was the staff willing to help me out during a financial difficulty. I am grateful for that.

Response from the owner2 years ago
Kristen- We are sorry that you did not have a good experience. Our Director of Outpatient Services will be reaching out to you to see how we can offer assistance. Happy that we could be helpful during the financial difficulty.

Everyone I have to deal with from the time I walk in and to the time I walk out is very professional uplifting even when you re having a bad day they make you smile. The front desk ladies are super super nice, I love my therapist I ve never been able to open up to anyone until I met Donna! She is a number 10 in my book, I highly recommend her if you suffer from extreme PTSD depression. My psychiatrist is wonderful, they always make you feel at home. I would definitely not want to go anywhere else. Brooklane does have a very strict no call no show or if you call within 24 hours of your appointment but I completely understand. If you were looking for a new place to call home therapy Psychiatrist everything they offer this is definitely the right place.
