About Breakthrough Recovery Outreach

Breakthrough Recovery Outreach offers people aged 13 and up support in dealing with addiction, trauma and mental health struggles. They serve Atlanta, Georgia and beyond. They offer adult residential, youth residential, youth outpatient programs and sober living for men. They follow the 12 Step philosophy.

At Breakthrough Recovery Outreach, they focus on healing the mind, body and spirit by focusing on the issues that play a part in your current behaviors. This program teaches you to trust the process as you move from destructive behaviors and feeling hopeless to resilience, purpose and empowerment.

You’ll get a personalized treatment plan that begins with a total health assessment. The healthcare team of providers includes psychiatrists, nurses, licensed therapists, certified addiction counselors and peer support specialists.

During residential treatment, you’ll participate in many holistic activities that promote healing. Yoga, acupuncture, tai chi, as well as group and individual therapy sessions are provided.

You can complete a free insurance verification form online to see exactly how much coverage you have. Also, to begin treatment you can start by filling out a form. I like that option instead of a phone call because for some people, a phone call can be too intimidating and a small step is easier to get started.

All the negative comments people wrote about breakthrough are true. They were so unprofessional sometimes the staff would mix up people's medications and give people the wrong one. You have to watch out with medication you're getting. Also all the things that are advertised about breakthrough are not true. What's true is you have a rather dumpy apartment to live in with a bunch of other people and about 5 hours of groups during the week. The only other thing they do is go to recovery meetings. The 5 hours a week is almost nothing and you don't need to be in any program to go to recovery meetings. So what you pay for is basically your housing and 5 hours of groups per week. My counselor was fine but the general state of this place is one horribly unprofessional and housing residence staff don't seem to know what they're doing half the time, honestly. Last, during the peak hot days in the spring and summer one of the vans had no air conditioning, it had broken and was never fixed so they have to put the windows down at all times. Breakthrough was a horrible experience for me and I'm lucky I'm still on this planet! My goal is not to bad mouth this place but to give an honest evaluation because the program doesn't offer 80% of what it advertises such as massage and horse therapy. This place should be shut down. This can't be legal some of the ways they run things. W'ell see breakthroughs response to this one

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Breakthrough Recovery Outreach provides an initial 90 Day Program for both males and females. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. The EIOP occurs three evening weekdays (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) for a three hour timeframe from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants in 12 step recovery programs focus on personal growth to address the emotional and psychological factors contributing to their addiction. 12 step recovery is rooted in spiritual development, but religious affiliation isn't required. Regular group meetings and individualized support with the help of self-selected sponsors promote participants' sobriety as they work through the 12 steps, gaining insight into their addiction, taking responsibility for their life choices, and releasing control over that which is uncontrollable.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

It saved my life.

I came in saying I was fine. But inside I was broke falling apart. I had tried suicide and failed. I had so much junk buried deep in me. I worked hard had a great team and faced it all. My team did not rush me but worked with me.

I called to get help for my son and they would not even return my calls. I called three different times within a 8 hour period and they gave a different excuse each time and told me they have other families to deal with. I asked if my son was important and Mr, Marcus said he was terminating the call. I guess I got my answer

I've been to several facilities and breakthrough was by far the worst. The staff was very unprofessional and rude. I stayed here for a few months and they were the absolute worst months of my life.

Please read this before you come here or send your child here. I hated it here. I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. Most of the staff are not supportive and the people I lived with tormented me yet no one did anything to stop it even after I told mr, jacobs, the owner about it. He personally saw this happening. Also your response is not characteristic, it is fake. I could very well take legal action for emotional distress. If I was there in person you d belittle my feelings and reason. You pick favorites and treat the rest like trash. You destroyed my mental health and I am now struggling with ptsd on top of what I was already dealing with. Respectfully you should be shut down.

This was one of the worst places I've ever been to. They really don't care if you get sober, they only care about money. DO NOT GO HERE!!

My mom found Breakthrough for me when I was 16 years old. I had the slight motivation to get sober and my mom knew that she didn t have much time to get me in somewhere before my motivation was gone. I was at Ridgeview for the 28 day program and myself and the case manager there agreed I needed more time.I spent a little over 5 months at Breakthrough. It created an environment where I could have my full attention on my recovery and not worry about outside issues. We went to a 12 step meeting every day and I still go to meetings now. All of the staff at Breakthrough have played a part in why I am sober today. Those beginning days were some of the toughest and Breakthrough was the safe place where I could work through those tough days.Through the beautiful chaos we all see on the road to recovery, all of the Breakthrough staff had seen it before and they were able to help me in the way I didn t know I needed it. In 2 weeks I will be 10 years sober and I am truly happy every single day. I wouldn t be where I am without the team and environment at Breakthrough.

My teenage son was in the in-patient program. The care, counseling and treatment he and our family received was amazing. The professionals at Breakthrough provided the highest quality level of service and went above and beyond on our son s behalf. Addiction recovery is not simply a job for these professionals, it is a calling.
