About BJC Behavioral Health

Located in Farmington, Missouri, BJC Behavioral Health ā€“ Southeast Site is an outpatient behavioral health center. This facility offers outpatient addiction treatment and medical detox, as well as medication assisted treatment. If youā€™re looking to quit vaping and smoking cessation, that treatment is also offered here.

BJC Behavioral Health offers outpatient and early intervention treatment services. Using a person centered philosophy youā€™ll engage in individual and group counseling and psychoeducation. Peer recovery support and medication management are also components of treatment.

I like that this program has counseling geared toward self empowerment and open communication. Assistance with housing, employment, and any other social services will be given to you as needed.

You may receive additional referrals to more intensive treatment programs or mental health care based on assessment and ongoing care. Same day treatment and screenings are available if you need treatment right away.

People whoā€™ve attend treatment at BJC Behavioral Health say that itā€™s an amazing facility. They said it helped them through hard times. Some former program attendees say the wait times were long and the staff was unprofessional.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs are designed to enable participants to understand and address the root causes of their addiction, accept responsibility for their life choices, and relinquish control over that which they cannot change. Participants are expected to regularly attend 12 step meetings and to be mentored in their recovery journey by a self-selected sponsor. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public. A variety of formats are available, including programs for seniors, teens, family members, and nondenominational Christians.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

A sober living home in Missouri is designed to foster character development, accountability, camaraderie, and mutual peer encouragement. In this communal-living setting, individuals in recovery share household responsibilities and participate in 12-step programs together. Residents can remain in the home as long as they want, as long as they follow the house rules. An average stay in men's or women's sober living lasts between five and eight months.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in Missouri is a planned meeting between a person struggling with addiction and their close friends and family members. The goal of the intervention is to motivate the individual to seek treatment. To be successful, an intervention requires careful planning which may involve intervention services from an intervention specialist. Theyl can be certified by the Association of Intervention Specialists, or they may have other expertise that qualifies them for this role.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based therapy that addresses trauma and post traumatic stress disorder by using bilateral stimulation. The method helps you reprocess traumatic memories of events you may have witnessed or experienced and fosters cognitive restructuring that ultimately improves your resilience.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills give you the ability to maintain healthy relationships, complete day to day tasks, and cope with challenges. Because substance use disorder often diminishes these skills, rehab in Missouri includes integrated life skills training to rebuild and reinforce these abilities.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy helps you overcome addiction by engaging in activities that promote physical fitness and mental health. These activities can include team sports, art, and outdoor adventures, Each of which helps reduce your stress level, improves mood, and develops new hobbies. These are crucial to support your long term journey to sobriety.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

First therapist I had was a great therapist but more than once called out due to health issues and I was not informed until waiting for my appointment in the waiting room after driving to the facility to be seen. After this happened a few times I requested a different therapist. She was fine, too, but was pregnant and we had to switch to the video service therapy. Spent a year with her until she got a new job. When she was leaving I was told BJC would reach out to me to find a new therapist. This is when the biggest fiasco of all started. Nobody reached out to me. I called and waited for a few days later to finally talk to someone who then asked what my preferences were for therapy. Then I didn't hear back for a few more days until I messaged the first therapist they had assigned me previously if she knew anything that was going on. Received a phone call later that day to assign me a therapist. This new therapist seemed okay for a while until a couple weeks ago when I arrived for an appointment and was told they didn't know where she was and that my appointment was cancelled, they'd leave her a message and she'd contact me. Tomorrow would be two weeks and I had heard nothing.I called this morning and while on the phone with the receptionist my therapist called me. She blamed the facility for cancelling her appointments and said she was pulling into the parking lot the day of the previous appointment. Finger pointing is not how to resolve any of these issues and I have no idea who to believe between BJC or their therapists. All in all the therapy itself has been fine but the poor communication is disruptive of my time and the uncertainty is jarring. I cannot recommend anyone go to BJC Behavioral Health due to these inconsistencies.

Completely terrible place. The staff was completely ignoring a man who was definitely in crisis and had been waiting for 5 hours. We were told we would have to wait 4 hours, to possibly be seen that day.
