As a student in 2008 then volunteer Counseling Coordinator for a season in 2009, l had the opportunity to experience first hand the powerful expression of God s faithful work in the lives of those (like me) who were dealing with an addiction. In 2017 l came back to Bethel Colony of Mercy for a year as a volunteer Strategic Advisor focused on building our ministry brand in Caldwell County, forging key alliances and assessing new, innovative paths to more robustly resource this 76-year-old transformation ministry. In 2023 God led me back as a volunteer to assist the executive director Pastor Paul Pruitt and board of directors as the ministry set its course on growth across both the men s & women s growing campuses. The desperate need for Bethel s innovative, 65-day Biblically driven, faith-based program is without question. More than 12 people die daily in North Carolina (alone) from opioid overdoses. America is in the dark abyss of substance abuse agony and the only durable solution is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, while following a path of daily discipleship. With a youngest daughter who has had addiction impacts in her own life, l cannot help but have new hope kindled whenever observing the lives of women like her so radically changing on the beautiful 148 acre women s campus in Lenoir, NC. There is hope, healing and health here at Bethel Colony of Mercy. My personal recommendation is without qualification along with a strong encouragement and invitation for anyone who is at a dead end in their lives. Just pick up the phone and call. Miracles still happen. We see them every day in transformed lives and mended families!Butch MaltbyBethel graduate 2008

Addicts need support and love This is NOT the place. You wrote someone up for their baseboards being wet after you require them to be cleaned? Seems like they re constantly looking for ways to kick anyone out and when they want to come back they want you to call twice a week and basically beg to be let back in?! That is not really welcoming with open arms and I m sure they have an excuse for treating them this way. If you re looking for a loving support to help with someone in addiction I would find a different program. I have never heard of a facility wanting to help someone in addiction just toss them out and have them beg to come back. Ridiculous.

Response from the owner2 months ago
Hello Larissa, we have never dismissed anyone from our program for wet baseboards or any surface that got cleaned. It sounds like you have been mislead on the real reason someone got dismissed or if they got dismissed at all. If someone disqualified themselves from our program or choose to leave. We do give them an opportunity to come back. We do ask them to check in, because we want to make sure we hold that bed for them if they desire to come back. If they do not desire we want to make sure we make it available to the next person who has applied. We hope your love one will come to real freedom, that is possible through Jesus.

I am a proud alumna of Bethel. This place provided me with the support and love I needed to thrive. The staff is amazing and they care for the students as if they were their own. Bethel has changed my life forever, and I owe everything to God, with Bethel playing a significant role in that transformation.

I was at Bethel 24 years ago. I worked in the office during my time. Bethel restored me to where I needed to be. I went on to marry and have 2 daughters. The oldest is actually getting married today as we are back in Asheville, NC. No programs are perfect, but if you're seeking to let God change your life Bethel provides the place for that to happen. Many thanks and continue the Lord's work there...

It is unfortunate and puzzling that this "ministry" declines entry to anyone who is HIV+ or HepC+. Clearly not a lot has changed within the last 30 years if this is still a reason for denial. It is no longer the 80s or 90s and education and treatment have greatly improved. Unfortunately their decision only continues to uphold the stigma surrounding HIV and other communicable diseases. There is no desire from their management and Board of Directors to receive education from medical providers experienced in this field.

Response from the owner6 months ago
Hello Samuel that is not an accurate statement. Only those who have ongoing medical needs with HepC do we recommend to attend another program that can handle the medical components. When someone who has had progressed HepC symptoms they need more attention that we can help with. We are not a medical program as stated in our application. There are some requirements that need to be meet to be admitted. If you have any other questions please call.

So I spent approximately 20 years in addiction to crack/cocaine. That's not to mention starting other drugs and drinking around 12 - 13 years old. During those years I completed at least two other programs, and many out-patient and 12 step groups. Ultimately, it Was Bethel Colony that helped set me free from the things that tormented me! Perhaps timing and/or my complete surrender were factors. But I know that it was at Bethel that I found freedom. They had all the factors needed; the care, the love, the knowledge, the wisdom, the experience, the expertise and yes, the power of God. And I thank God that He used the people and facility at Bethel to help me and countless men like me. I have recommended them countless times and currently can hardly wait to see the transformation of a friend of mine who took my suggestion and is at Bethel, now.

I come from Switzerland and found myself at a point in life where I thought it was shattered. I heard about Bethel from a former mentor and pastor, thinking I needed a time-out. Through a prayer confirmation, I went to Bethel in faith. There, I found brothers, men who had fallen and risen again. I discovered that God wasn't done with me and that I still had a calling. I realized that my world wasn't falling apart but falling into place. Now, I'm married, have a wonderful son, and I'm studying at ISTL pursuing a Bachelor's in Pastoral Leadership, being trained as an apostle. Bethel has been a transformative journey, and I am grateful for the restoration and purpose it brought into my life.No distant is too far, when you find what you seek. And I found Jesus again, and He found me.I highly recommend each man who is struggling with whatever to visit this wonderful place. You will be shaped and restored.Remain blessed everyoneKuya

Coming through the women s program and being apart of the Bethel family has made such a positive impact on my life in so many ways. It is amazing the mountains that can be moved when we let God take control of every aspect in our lives. This program not only put the structure back in my life where my addiction had taken over. I learned to accept God s forgiveness and how to move forward. Bethel s program is not meant to be easy, but helps you face your problems head on, relearn discipline, and be a functioning member of society. It definitely changed my view on life, and I highly recommend it if you would like to change yours. Jesus is the answer, you just need to take that leap of faith. <3

I went to Bethel Colony of Mercy in 2021 and it drastically changed my life. This program helped to equip me for battle. The staff is amazing, each member leading by example; always directing you back to biblical truths. While there, I developed an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and it laid the foundation of my recovery. I also developed friendships with some godly women, who hold me accountable. I am so grateful for this program; all the restoration, love and support that I have gained by attending. Praise the Lord!
