About Benton County Health Services

Benton County Health Services in Corvallis, Oregon, provides treatment for substance use disorders that includes individual and group counseling services. Oregon’s Mental Health and Addiction Certification Board has granted advanced training and certifications to its staff members. They provide group therapy, drug screens and assessments of alcohol and drug use to establish the appropriate level of treatment.

They offer peer delivered services or recovery mentors, individual case management, care coordination and referrals to mental health treatment and other resources. They also provide individual substance abuse counseling, medication assisted treatment (MAT) services and a focus on parent and child reunification. They offer support with residential detox admission, relapse prevention strategies and other related services.

The facility also provides comprehensive treatment and support services through their evidence based practice assertive community treatment. This program seeks to offer community based intensive and highly integrated services delivered by a multidisciplinary team of experts. Their services are designed for those with serious mental illnesses that limit their ability to live in the community along with a dual diagnosis of a substance use disorder. These are people who would not usually visit a clinic for conventional care.

In order to optimize independence and community integration these services are intended to be delivered in the most integrated settings feasible. Their team provides therapy in public spaces such as sidewalks, shelters and homes.

Their peer specialist program aims to support enrolled clients and community members in achieving their overall health improvement objectives. Office and community based options are available through the program.

To increase engagement and participation in services, peers work as members of the care team to deliver client centered services within the behavioral health program. This allows clients to talk to a non clinical individual about their mental health and substance use concerns in a safe environment. Clients can be referred to treatment by families, the legal system, social services, independent treatment organizations and doctors. Patients can also refer themselves for services.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Oregon offers a full continuum of care for those struggling with addiction. From detox, to inpatient, to outpatient, to aftercare, Oregon residents can find the support they need for recovery. This treatment empowers individuals to replace drug use with positive alternatives and develop a healthier lifestyle.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Fun fact, today we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of our 340b pharmacy (a partnership between the OSU College of Pharmacy and the Community Health Centers of Benton and Linn Counties). I m amazed at the impact our pharmacy has made in the lives of our patients. Thank you, Bob, for the positive feedback. We are truly grateful - and looking forward to the next 10 years!

Get tchya'll fixed up with what ails ya. Doctors, Nurses and Staff are kind. My care team in particular have done some amazing work and I am grateful. Pharmacy is pretty swift, especially when called in ahead of time or scheduled.I have had some recent appointments where they were not prepared for me or the person I was scheduled to see had called off or had to cover a different area. Leaving me to reschedule 3 separate occasions. I live fairly far away and take time off for some of these. I really wish they would have called me ahead of time.Oh well. It's pretty busy in there and I know staffing is a real issue. Pay these people more and fix that damn elevator. I don't even use it, but the elevator technician has got to pick up their game.Despite these recent snafus, I have the utmost respect for the people who work there and thankful they are here in the community.Overall 9.9/10Mistakes happen. I probably won't die.

Thanks for the kind words. As you've experienced, our staff get sick too. We do our absolute best to cover with on-call providers, nurses, and medical assistants. Occasionally the sick call is last minute and no other providers are available to cover. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we make it through this cold season. Thankfully, sunny weather is on its way!

Ive been trying to call them for days. I need the needle exchange cuz I cant afford new needles for a prescription and they give me some random guys personal cell phone number... weird but ok. I call him 5 times a day. Leave messages, he never answers. They didn't even give me the harm reduction number, I found it in a flyer when I used the bathroom. Called them. Went straight to voicemail. Today is the day I'm supposed to take my PRESCRIPTION! Guess I'll gave to reuse my old syringe, cuz I cant miss a dose. Listen guys, I'm not here cuz I'm on drugs. I have a PRESCRIPTION FROM A DOCTOR! Treat me with some freaking respect. The receptionists were just like "oh we dont do that call this guy" while giving me judgemental looks. Not everyone who needs the needle exchange is a drug addict. Some of us are just trying to take our medicine on time. If I had diabetes I'd be dead already. Step up your game.Edit. I just called the front desk, they told me they didnt know the harm reductions guys schedule yesterday, but today I called them and said, "hes not picking up the phone, so I was wondering if you could call him and maybe he'll pick up then." She told me hes on vacation till the 3d. Ok so telling me that before I thought he was ignoring my calls would have been nice. She was super snarky and rude and even tried telling me she wasnt the one I talked to originally. You have a memorable voice, you're the one I talked to. Dont try and gaslight me. On top of her attitude, shes playing the "not my problem game." This isnt over.Another update. I went against my better judgment and tried to make this my primary care. Not even and hour before my appointment, they canceled. While I'm walking in the rain at 8 am.... dont go here. Its not worth the headache. I dont care that my doctor called out. Hire floaters. That's your damn job. Do it. I'll drive north for dr appointments from here on out.

Worst place ever, went through eight counselors in the last 4 years because they can't treat their employees right and they're counselors come in nice and awesome and by the time that 6 months of them working there comes along, they run for the hills because they get treated so poorly there they can't even work there...

I have been seeing Dr. Williams here for over a decade. He has been very helpful with my many health issues, and always give me time to talk, with a very intellectual response.
