About Astor Services for Children & Families – Dutchess County Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program

Astor Services for Children and Families - Adolescent Day Treatment Program - BOCES Beta serves adolescents ages 12 -21 years of age. Astor staff members provide the mental health treatment components of the program and BOCES staff provide the academic and crisis intervention components.

You’ll benefit from accessible payment options that include Medicaid and sliding scale fees. To qualify, your child must show difficulty in functioning in daily life situations. They might also be already placed in emergency treatment or psychiatric hospitalization. In that case, they can be referred directly.

When you sign up, you’ll find that their program offers a safe and stable environment for your child to attend treatment. Daily group therapy sessions allow your kids to step away from distractions and focus on recovery. They’ll do this with their peers who are in the same boat as they. That way, they can learn from each other and provide moral support as they recover together.

One incredible feature I noticed is their onsite education. Since they operate during school hours, they add two extra hours of onsite tutoring from LearnWell. This can help your child stay on track with school while getting the care they need.

Your kids can access an individualized treatment plan with proven therapeutic interventions. Dialectical behavioral therapy, medication management, discharge planning, and referrals are available.

Another standout feature is their support services. You’ll have access to family therapy, coaching, and education so that you’ll be directly involved in your child’s treatment. There’s also continuous coaching in case your child experiences a relapse or behavioral health crisis. That way, as a parent, you’ll also have peace of mind as well. Check ’em out to make sure they’re a good fit for your needs.

Don't get me wrong, I love my therapist at Astor. But trying to get in contact with someone who isn't my therapist is aggravating. The front desk and billing people blow up my phone and then whenever I call them back, they don't answer. Kinda upsetting.

They dump you when the band aid won't work on the wound and never set you up for a new counselor with any other facility. We were told if me or my dad came on property after a lie from a 3rd party here say which if was actually true a report would have been filled and cops called.we'd both be arrested my dad had no part in anything yet he was also included in the property ban when I spoke with them.they may be good with younger kids but can't handle teens and up

ADT is a full school day program and operates according to the BOCES school year calendar.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Astor is an utter disgrace. No in person therapy available and you work with children? Are you serious? And referring me to MHA for them to tell me that there is no in person therapy available is the epitome of unhelpful. You should be ashamed.

My daughter has received services from Astor for the last 2-3 years. I have nothing but good things to say about the receptionists, staff, therapists, nurses and NPs. They have been a blessing to us! When my daughter does not have an appointment one week due to a holiday or whatever, someone will call to check on us. I really appreciate that. It is tough having interns as my daughter's therapists but they need to train somewhere. If your child has extreme difficulty with change then ask for someone that is consistent.

Was part of their care for about 4 and a half years. They put with a family who would turn out to be my abusers though I had a history of abuse. Even when I told my worker, I wasn't believed but the foster parents were. They're still parents as of 2021. Honestly disgusting.

Maybe they do some good, but all I know from them is their theft of my intellectual property when they printed the article that I wrote without any acknowledgement to me as the author. Very unprofessional.
