About Ascensa Health

Ascensa Health is an addiction recovery facility in Atlanta, Georgia. They have been in operation for 60 years previously as St. Jude’s Recovery Center before changing their name. They focus on providing addiction treatment services to adults who are in need.

Patients who are unhoused, uninsured, or low-income are welcome to receive treatment. They conduct comprehensive assessments to determine an appropriate program for clients. The programs available at this facility include recovery support, withdrawal management and outpatient and residential treatment.

In addition to these services, the facility provides employment support, health services and family services. Individuals can be admitted to their program through a scheduled appointment over the phone or a walk-in appointment.

Medications are provided to patients during detox to reduce their substance cravings. Ascensa Health combines the use of medication with counseling and behavioral therapies during this phase of treatment.

When patients enter residential treatment, the length of stay will typically last between 60 to 90 days. There are two separate facilities available for men and women. Along with individual and group counseling, clients will receive life skills training, health and wellness services and relapse prevention services.

I like that they provide a variety of employment services to help clients re enter the workforce after treatment. Patients are given transportation assistance for employment search, workplace social skill development, and resume building and interview skill workshops.

They also offer patients basic computer training and financial literacy education. At Ascensa Health, state funding is available to cover the treatment costs for the uninsured and underinsured.

The administration team and the detox staff are amazing Mrs. Brandy and her staff truly care about thier patients. Unfortunately the staff in long term and upper management mainly in mens residential only care about a paycheck. I drove 2 hours one way twice to be in line at 5am to get in. Long term staff in mens residential said I failed my drug test even after I passed at my doctors appointment by the main office. I'm a alcholic I definitely never did drugs when I was fortunate enough to get a bed for in patient. I think she was ms T and he was Russell I think. If your not court mandated without health insurance don't waste your time they will find a way to kick you out no matter how much you need the help to get sober.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
St. Jude’s provides a structured day treatment program for men and women utilizing evidence-based practices. Day treatment includes psycho-educational groups, individual and group therapy, skill building groups, employment readiness, 12-step, spirituality, and relapse prevention.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs feature intensive clinical supervision and a highly structured and supportive environment, meaning they are especially well suited for clients in early recovery and those at risk of relapse. Clients reside at the treatment facility and engage in various therapeutic sessions throughout the day, including addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many programs also offer evidence-based complementary therapies, such as meditation and massage.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients enrolled in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) travel to treatment centers for specialized care multiple times per week. Intensive outpatient treatment allows clients to receive robust care while continuing to live at home. Most programs require between nine and 20 treatment hours per week, with the frequency and intensive of sessions decreasing as clients stabilize. Services generally include a combination of addiction counseling, medication assisted treatment (MAT), recovery-focused life skills training, and holistic therapies.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Aftercare, which is sometimes referred to as continuing care or relapse prevention, is a type of structured care meant to help you continue with the progress you've made after completing an addiction treatment program. Most of the time, you'll continue receiving support after a treatment program by partnering with their case managers and staff to identify and access the resources you need to remain sober.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex & Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
St. Jude’s Recovery Center provides housing in a sober living environment for individuals who have completed residential treatment and are stable and employed. They also provides permanent supportive housing for homeless individuals who are in recovery.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. St. Jude’s serves men and women who require 24-hour supervision, for medical stabilization of withdrawal symptoms including Buprenorphine for opioid withdrawal. The duration of the detoxification period is individualized. Withdrawal symptoms are resolved before a client is transitioned to the next level of care.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

During rehab in Georgia, you may engage in motivational interviewing. This typically lasts one to two sessions and is designed to address any ambivalence you have toward change. It helps you explore your current situation and motivations and commit to making changes for the future.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In trauma therapy, you address the emotional and psychological effects of traumatic events in your life. Your therapist provides you with the tools you need to process those memories and reduce the symptoms. This helps improve your overall mental health and functioning.

St. Jude’s provides family therapy education and support. Services are available for anyone affected by another person’s addiction to alcohol and drugs. St. Jude’s provides on-site therapeutic childcare for children living with their mothers in residential treatment, as well as summer programming, homework assistance, life and social skills training, after-school activities, and prevention education.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

First of let me say the administration team in admissions is wonderful. They truly care . But then comes the Detox building. Which is pure filth. It is horrible . Boogers on the walls and mold and dirt everywhere. I literally watched them strip sheets off of a bed , not clean it and put a new person on a mattress. The filth was insane . While I was there. They let two ladies in with drugs. One with an IV needle . And the second with Heroine. The way the staff talks to patients when they are at there lowest is horrific . The Friday night nurse 7/26/24. Should be fired . She is horrible . She s a nurse so she knows everything . They literally tried to give me medicine that would cause my Serontonin Syndrome to get worse . The food is not food. I m not sure what it is. People had dairy restrictions. They didn t care. The staff will not allow you to use the phone . Mind you I had children. I gave it my best effort . But after 10 days I had an emergency and had to leave . They talked to me like pure trash and kicked me out on the street with my bags . Wouldn t let me make a phone call. It was horrible. Mr. Willy was the only person who cared . The night staff were on there phones and computers. There were no detox classes at all. I call this the place of horrors . I will forever have PTSD from this place . I had a family member refer me here . She owns a facility. But after I explained the horrors . She let me know she would not be referring anyone else. Please go to Ridgeview Monroe or Highland Rivers. If anything. Go into the emergency room and let them find you a detox center . Do not under any circumstances go here. Unless you want to be talked to or treated like pure Garbage . I am reporting this place and the nurse who treated me so ugly. All of the detox staff needs help . Desperately. You should not leave new people alone or rude nurses when people are at there lowest . The admission staff is amazing . The Detox is horrible . Please avoid at all cost . Take it from someone who got worse over 10 days and not better . Now that I am home. I am so much better already. My dad was sick and in the hospital and they treated me like trash . Wouldn t allow me to call him . It was terrible . I hope the Thursday , Friday , Sunday night nurse gets a good dose of reality . You need it. Detox should be ashamed of themselves.

I was unsure if my family member was a qualified rehabilitation facility ,I had read some bad reviews. It took effort to get her in.It was worth every bit of effort! She went through the detoxing,I couldn't have contact with her. When we talked for the first time I realized my prayers had been answered. She was on the road to recovery. She was so grateful she got in and was feeling better and thinking clearly. My sister's counselor Mr Dre personally called and invited and encouraged me to attend the monthly Family Day and I did. I was blown away by the professional, compassionate care the patients receive. As a family member I received counseling and tools and the information on how to take this journey of recovery with my loved one.Ascensa reassured my loved one and myself there are professional people that really care about you living a life in recovery, redemption for ever! You are not a number on a pay check, but a living soul! Thank you Ascensa!
