March 25 I will have been clean for 2 years. I have been to many clinics and never have come this far! If I have a problem I get dealt with usually that day and with addiction being fast and efficient can be life or death. I think Dr. Harkin has tried hard to make his clinic a better the typical methadone clinics and I think he s done amazing job! Not one of the other clinics in Madison can you walk into and say I m struggling can I please talk to the doctor, not one of them will you be able to do that but at ASAP you can and that s enough for me that right there is what it should be! When we walk in there in the morning sometimes all we need is someone to say hi , how are u doing with a smile on their face and that s enough to change that day!! I m so grateful for my second chance at life .well let s keep it real more like 100th chance at life!! Lol but I think I got it this time and that s thanks to dr. Harkin and he s amazing staff!!

I was at this clinic for 3 years almost and the best thing that ever happened to me was switching to Psychological Addiction Services. While I was at asap my hippa rights were violated by my counselor multiple times to her family. When I heard Psychological Addiction services was getting a mobile unit I started asking questions because I would sometimes be stuck in the medical rides for 6 hours or more. Every staff member at ASAP that knew about it lied to me and said oh you have to be phased to utilize the mobile unit in Portage. This is not true!! I was still using sporadically because another thing is I went through 5 FIVE different counselors and the root of my addiction was not getting addressed because after awhile you do get sick of telling your story over and over again. I'm proud to say I am now clean & have been able to maintain sobriety and it's because I finally stood my ground and made the switch! If you live north of Madison please do not keep going- you do not have to even be clean to start on the Mobile unit. Hands down best choice I made for myself!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab is designed to stabilize clients who are exiting detox or those who are in some form of crisis. They are an important preliminary step designed to prepare clients for outpatient, sober living, or community-based care. Clients live at the treatment center and engage in intensive addiction counseling. Group and family therapy is common. Many programs also emphasize recovery-focused life skills training to support clients' sustained sobriety. Some programs offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) support clients' return to their community following inpatient treatment and may also offer an alternative to hospitalization for clients who are relatively stable following detox. Many intensive outpatient rehabs require clients to participate in a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 treatment hours weekly. IOP services are also highly customizable and typically include a combination of addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and holistic therapies such as meditation.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. Linden Oak's Addiction Services unit is a separate area within Linden Oaks Hospital that offers treatment for those undergoing withdrawal as they stop the cycle of addiction. Patients are detoxified under the care of a psychiatrist, and their staff has specialized training to provide the medication, monitoring and support needed during the withdrawal process.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Conflict resolution and stress are common triggers for addictive behavior. Within a group therapy setting, participants learn to practice essential skills to improve relationships, manage conflict, and reduce stress. Each of these is a crucial factor in maintaining recovery.

Individual therapy offers you a tailored approach to treat drug addiction. This focuses on your unique needs and offers you personalized support outside of a group setting. You begin to understand what triggers your addictive behavior and develop coping skills that can support your recovery.

During couples therapy, you will engage in activities that promote forgiveness, healthy communication, and understanding. You'll receive "homework" to practice these skills during the week between sessions. Couples therapy typically lasts around 12 weeks.

One focus of family therapy is to create a network for the individual in recovery. Families must identify dysfunctional patterns and develop healthier ways of interacting. This can significantly improve their loved one's treatment outcome.

Dr Harkin, is great he is truly compassionate for his patient's. I have only been to one other clinic and they just treat you like a number, they treat you with respect at ASAP and they don't judge. It seems like everyone likes Dr Harkin, you will even find him out in the parking lot from time to time giving fist bumps to his patient's and asking them how they are doing.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Thanks James for taking the time to acknowledge Dr Harkin. We truly feel its an honor to be on this journey with you.

The one (and only - unfortunately) methadone clinic that is an actual RESPECTABLE, CLEAN, SAFE CLINIC. I have had my share of experience and to have a place where you are respected and treated like a person, is HUGE. PLUS, as part of treatment, you are assigned a counselor; had Dawn Marie been my counselor through life, I probably wouldn't even NEED to go to a methadone clinic! You have no doubt that she has your back and best interests at heart. Which is priceless when it comes to treatment and getting WELL. Even if you have to drive a bit farther, THIS is the clinic that cares about your sobriety and wants you to succeed!

Response from the owner2 years ago
Hello Taylor, please reach out to your counselor so that we can help you. Methadone is a medication that must be handled carefully for your safety. Because of its long-acting nature, need to be loaded (given over several consecutive days) and its prolonged time to reach a steady state (equalize in your system), when too much time has passed from missed dosing this must be restarted. We look forward to helping you move forward with your long-term goals in treatment.

I transferred here after my long time doctor moved away. Dr Harkin is amazing and I'm definitely disappointed he is no longer prescribing Suboxone. Transitioning to the new clinic that was suggested to me has been less than smooth to say the least. Most definitely not an easy transition like it was when I transferred to Dr Harkin

It used to be a compassionate place where the patient came first. Now it seems that we are no more than a number, or that we are more like cattle than people. It's a sad trend that I hope will be reversed. This has been the trend as the clinic has grown in size, hopefully this trend will not continue, only time will tel . There is a lot that is great about this clinic overall still.

Could not recommend ASAP more. The doctor is amazing you can truly feel the energy shift so much higher by simply walking into this clinic. Every staff member knows that they are worth their weight in gold to this place all while still staying humble and truly treating every patient with kindness and respect.Every person struggling with this disease has heard all the whispers and felt all the judging eyes in every other part of their daily lives and it is beyond refreshing to walk into a building and be confidant in the fact that you are not being judged NO MATTER where you are currently in your life.Honestly, I truly feel like the open arms and just all around respect/compassion I was given from the receptonist, to the person who took my intake information, to the nurse, as well as my counselor, and especially Dr. Harkin that I received the first day I walked into this "second shot at life" giving place was the ONLY reason I was able to start my recovery process at all.I could not recommend ASAP more. If you're struggling please reach out to this Doctor and his staff.

I was at home immediately I had a long time doctor retire and he suggested ASAP and thank God I went there the staff is warm friendly and makes you feel welcome. Dr. Harkin is the most humble and comforting Dr. I have ever had. I drive from Janesville and everyone asks why I don't go to a local Dr and I won't change because Dr. Harkin is such an awesome human being. Truly the best clinic and doctor ever.Maureen Martin
