About ARTS Westside Center for Change

ARTS Westside Center for Change is a location of Addiction Research and Treatment Services that is based in Arvada, Colorado. This outpatient facility is one of several in the ARTS network that provides drug and alcohol addiction treatment to give you a brighter future that you have control over.

This particular location offers personalized outpatient treatment programs as well as outpatient medication assisted treatment. MAT uses medications like methadone, Suboxone and Vivitrol to reduce cravings for opioids and opioid withdrawal symptoms to help you recover from opioid addiction. MAT can help with alcohol addiction too.

Along with medications this outpatient rehab provides evidence based therapy for drug and alcohol addiction so you can develop the skills and knowledge to maintain your sobriety. They draw from a variety of techniques and treatment methods from 12 step programs to cognitive behavioral therapy based on what methods will be best for you and your long term recovery.

The programs here serve adults of all genders. While everyone’s program is customized they also have specialized services for women and services for people who are HIV positive.

If adult outpatient treatment isn’t the right fit for you then that’s OK. ARTS has locations throughout the Denver area that offer other types of treatment too like residential rehab and adolescent treatment.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Adult Outpatient Programs offer an array of evidence-based practices designed to motivate individuals with substance use disorders to initiate positive steps toward recovery. Many of these individuals also have co-occurring mental health disorders, and the services offered in the five outpatient clinics are grounded in integrated treatment of co-occurring disorders.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Colorado is necessary when someone needs help with substance abuse but is unwilling to stop using despite multiple negative consequences. Intervention services are available to walk family and friends through a step-by-step process of planning and executing the intervention. A successful intervention requires careful planning and set-up as well as appropriate follow-up. Intervention services can be crucial to carrying out each of these steps.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Professional services are often necessary to recover from addiction. Drug rehab in Colorado provides the expert services needed to address the complex issues of addiction and help individuals start their recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Therapists who employ motivational interview techniques seek to draw out the client's ideas about change and allow them to draw their own conclusions about the need for change. This method is often effective for clients who feel unsure about their ability to change or the need for change.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

If you are looking for a place that offers individualized treatment then this is not the right place for you, I received the same treatment as all the patients and of course that didn't work for me.

I went to to ARTS a few months ago and I can tell you this place won't be able to help you as it wasn't able to help me, a negative experience that I hope no one else with a condition similar to mine has to experience.

The girl at the front desks Athena has no compassion for what people are going through. She definitely acts like she is better than everyone. And she is not helpful at all!!!

I have to say for now, I give four, out five stars because things are getting better... I would give five, but family is not allowed in with me, and that makes things hard for me because my wife has been part of my treatment and helps me become a better person, and not an addict. And one nurse there is very rude, every visit I make. I'm Christian so I have to be polite no matter what. She will make someones day much harder if they are a patient at arts, just the way she talks to people isn't nice.

I take my girlfriend there and she is treated badly I understand they have a job to do but their job is very serious and these people let unqualified staff determine whether or not they will give out the dose they have policies that they don't live by and for a place to deal with such a serious issue I don't believe they should allow receptionists or hired help other than professional certified counselors determine if the dose is given out or not

I take my wife here an this is the worst place of business I ve ever seen. The therapist always tells my wife they are to busy to help with certain things that are a part of their job duties. Two previous trips she has missed to meet my family because Santiago didn t have time to reply back to her even though it was two months advance notice. They

Honestly, this place really does help and I feel they reallt do care about you. Ive never witnessed any of the staff "gossip" about patients, as previously stated. Ive also never known of anyone "teaming up and bullying" anyone. As a matter of fact, in my personal experience, the ONLY thing ANYONE there, from front desk staff to the counselors, doctors, even the dosing nurses, has only ever tried to help me. When I went here the counselor I was assigned to was Vinny, whom sadly enough left before I left the program because he was every bit of AMAZING! I cannot begin to describe the level of professionalism and knowledge he displayed as well as the level of care! Well to be honest, every counselor that I worked with was very knowledgeable and their credentials surely matched that. Prior to attending ARTS, I would argue that the only counselors that are useful to an addict are those that have experienced addiction themselves. As of the writing of this review, I could not disagree more with that statement. Both Vinny as well as my group counselor, Angel, had at minimum a masters degree and their studies into the HORRIBLE disease of addiction certainly has paid off. At least I would think it has. I can imagine that if all the years they put into their studies resulted in saving at least one life, then it would've been worth it. Well lemme say...BOTH Vinny and Angel saved my life and for that reason,, I will forever be in their debt. Vinny, if ever you read this, I wish you nothing but happiness as you navigate the ups and downs of parenthood and I REALLY hope that you someday decide to start counseling again because you really do have a knack for helping people battle such a God awful disease. You too Angel, which I have no idea if you are still with ARTS or not but I hope you continue doing what your best at as well.Wow, this is a waaayy longer review than I had planned...Anyways, I'm sure after reading this you are wondering why and the hell I only gave four stars lol. The reason I took a star away is because I feel it took FOREVER to "phase" to the next level of treatment. At the time, I felt that the process of reaching phase one status was hindering my sobriety. I was sober and had MONTHS AND MONTHS of clean UA's, yet for some rhyme or reason I STILL couldn't have the privilege of receiving additional take-homes! It was always something, ex missing paperwork, ie a release needed signed or an assessment needed updated...whatever the case, it was always due to something out of my control which I feel is not fair AT ALL. Other than that, excellent program
