About Andrews Center

Andrews Center in Tyler, Texas, is an addiction treatment facility that offers drug rehab services and behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with either drug and alcohol addictions or mental health conditions. This includes dual diagnosis cases for those who have co-occurring conditions. Some of these mental health conditions can include depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or PTSD.

This clinic offers services at the intensive outpatient level. This can be a major benefit to many because this clinic understands that many people have outside obligations to tend to, such as school, work, and home life. If this were a residential program, the patient would be required to stay at the residency for extended periods of time. With outpatient care, you can meet with your therapist and be on your way immediately after.

Some other services offered at this clinic include case management, medication management, family education, group education, and counseling services. This counseling includes individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy. They also offer prevention planning and aftercare services.

Individual therapy gives you the opportunity to meet face to face with a therapist who is trained to listen intently to your story and give you the advice you need to thrive. This includes dealing with past trauma, learning how to identify triggers that can cause you to relapse, and learning new coping strategies. Group therapy, however, is more of a group effort and is meant more for community and accountability. All of these sessions can make a major difference in your recovery journey.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Ridding the body of harmful, addictive substances, also known as detoxification, is usually the first phase of recovery. Those going through medically assisted detox can be administered medications by a team of medical professionals who are on-site 24/7 to provide different types of therapies that help mitigate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Couples therapy helps couples learn to control emotions, trust each other, and communicate more effectively. It can be useful for short term intervention for a specific issue or for working on the relationship long term.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

The right life skills training will help you build the skills you need for recovery. You'll learn how to solve problems, improve your social life, enhance your mental health, and make good decisions. This is a key component of drug rehab programs in Texas.

Creative arts therapy focuses on creative processes. You may engage in sculpting, dancing, improv, painting, or sketching. These creative outlets provide an opportunity to explore and express difficult emotions.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

My provider here was born for her job, I think. I don't always get along with her, but she is very good at what she does. The biggest problem is that the Center has a very large lack of funding. Too many patients for too little staff. That isn't the staff's fault, but it is the reality. If you can deal with that, their providers are very helpful.

These guys only pass as "mental health assistance" per the absolute bare minimum requirement. Operators and receptionists are rude, impatient, and often frankly useless I've been cut off and transferred to dead lines countless times while trying to ask basic questions like "when is your lab open?" or "what appointment do I need to make next?" I'm classified as a high priority patient yet I see my psychiatrist only 2-3 times a year. I hate this place, I sincerely do. They earn a 1.5/10 but I guess it's better than nothing.

My son was incarcerated for a non violent minimal offense Wright before the covid crisis shut down everything. This was not Smith County jail nor Henderson County. This was Bowie County Texas, that is Texarkana a small city that sits on the border of Arkansas and Texas for you guys that don't know. Well anyway during his sentence at Bowie County he had witnessed a guard beat a guy severely bad with his fist while his hands where handcuffed behind his back. My son made a statement to internal affairs along with several other inmates and a lady guard. He began making threats to the guard and following her. She just said the hell with it and quit her job. All along he was aloud to stay at work and continue supervision over the inmates that seen him beat a man and make him spend upwards of a week in the hospital. He started telling my son and the inmates that he was just waiting for his opportunity that they where all going to get the same thing as the guy he put in the hospital. Well just so be it my son stands 5 foot 4 inches, and weighs about 115, so the guard told him tonight is the night that I get you. So you can just imagine in his mind what he was thinking was going to happen to him, so he made preparations to protect his self. He took the shower head off and put it in a tube sock. He had already been telling the other guards for days that the man was telling him he was going to kill him, everyone in the facility just ignored him, he pleaded and begged for help but help never came until it was to late. That very night around 2:00 am he entered my 22 year old kids cell, my son knew he was coming upon him entering the cell my son was able to strike him 1 time to the head. The guard was able to over power him and take the weapon the report stated the guard was able to strike him 4 times in the head before the other guards got there. The guards stated that they had handcuffed my son and was in the middle of trying to get my son medical attention when the guard grabbed the weapon and struck my son 2 more times before they could wrestle the guard to the ground. It caused my son to get 23 staples to the head. My son was charged with aggregated assault on a officer. The guard was suspended with pay. Now don't forget this was in the middle of the pandemic. My son was locked into a one man cell for 2 years after completing his 1 year sentence, because he was being held without bail. It was very hard to get a appointment with a lawyer but 8 months in it we finally got him a attorney but by this time my son had not been able to call his family or talk to anyone. His attorney knew something was wrong with my son, and he had a syciteris come in and talk with him, this was about another year. The doctor diagnosed him with paranoia schizophrenia. All charges were dropped. It took another 4 months before they could get him in a bed at the physiatric hospital in Terrell. At this time the guard was incarcerated and charged with multiple accounts of aggravated assault on multiple inmates. He was in the hospital in Terrell for about 5 months before he was released. When he came home he was like a entirely different person. He didn't know who I was he didn't know who his 4 brothers were and then we finally got his appointment to go to the Andrew center. They started him on a injection that would last for 3 months. The very next morning when he got out of bed he was back this was my son, I was so thankful to God and to the Andrew center they had finally gave him his life back. The last shot that he had was the middle of January. In the past 2 weeks my son has slowly diminished at this time he is doing the exact things that he was doing in the beginning. I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that there was a mistake made they have 2 shots one you take every month and the other every 3 months. I am by far not saying it was intentional but people make mistakes, his oldest brother has called and told them what is going on and repeatedly asked them did he get his medication I just hope and pray that they are investigating this.

It has been awhile since my encounter with this place, but I'd like to say what I think so it doesn't happen to anyone else. I was suffering from mental illness and needed medical help. Having no other resources, I found the courage to ask TAC for assistance. I spoke with an "intake" person who listened to my symptoms and pretended to read notes I'd prepared for when I inevitably struggled to talk about it. This "professional" sighed audibly and asked "Do you have a church family?" No other help was offered and my valid concerns were dismissed. I didn't need Sunday school; I needed a doctor. Total waste of effort. Thankfully, I didn't give up on my life. Don't go there if you're suicidal.

I have received services from here since 2019. And every month it was a struggle to receive my medications. Communication is horrible, and the scheduling ladies love to argue, and make you feel like you're in the wrong. I have came a long way with my mental health, and it's gotten to a point where the andrews center is a hinderamce.it is sad how stigmatized mental health is in our country and the andrew center provides a solid case as to why.
