About Amethyst House – Women’s House

Amethyst House is a Women’s House based in Bloomington, Indiana. They are a not for profit United Way agency that provides women's services in a residential and outpatient setting when you experience drug and alcohol addiction. The CARF-accredited facility is also certified by the Division of Mental Health and Addictions and is an approved provider for the Indiana State Nurses Assistance Program.

The residential program provides treatment for those over 18 years with a chemical dependency. To be eligible, you are required to get a job and become financially secure while in the program. Residents receive weekly case management, learn life skills, and participate in outpatient treatment programs while living in the home. They offer preferential treatment and admission for pregnant women and IV drug users.

Women who have dependent children up to age six can live at the home although space is limited. Before admission into the residential program, you must be sober for a minimum of five days unless you are being transferred directly from a detoxification center or hospital. The residential facilities are located in historic homes along city bus lines and within walking distance of many amenities. You prepare your meals from provided food and have laundry facilities and exercise equipment in the home.

They are a not-for-profit organization that accepts donations to help cover treatment. The outpatient program addresses substance abuse issues. You must be clean and sober for two weeks before admission into the outpatient program. You receive a comprehensive assessment to determine the appropriate level of care, which includes evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

outpatient iconOutpatient

If you need some flexibility and choice when it comes to your recovery, outpatient rehab programs are a great option because they do not require intensive inpatient treatment. Clients remain in their own homes and may continue to work or attend school while in active treatment. Outpatient treatment typically includes addiction counseling and continuing recovery education, including courses in self-care and relapse prevention. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is available in many treatment centers for clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery.

I'm part of the community where this wonderful house is located. From what I've witnessed they provide help with love and care. They are changing lives every day. It's so nice they are giving second chances to all of these women.

So... I'm at the Amethyst house (3 month program)... and I complete Sunday but they aren't letting me graduate bc of my bill... and they do a stone ceremony on Thursdays... today....at graduation, normally.... where everyone says nice things or well wishes or that they'll miss u or they cry... but not for me... bc of my bill.So I'm "not successful completion" when I've done everything right.

Amethyst house has been a life changing experience for me. They showed me love hope and support with great compassion for my success. I have learnt the importance of staying connected with mtgs and other outreach programs as well as budgeting and finding stability to make it on my own. I have learnt to hold myself and others accountabile as well as boundaries and just feeling good about daily chores. Amethyst is a great opportunity for someone seeking to getting their life back on track. They equip you with the tools and ability to be a success story and all you need to do is be willing and ready to recover.
