About Specialty Services II

American Behavioral Health Systems, abbreviated ABHS, provides comprehensive behavioral health care services for adults in Port Angeles, Washington. Their programs include detoxification, residential treatment, and aftercare support. There’s also specialized services for clients with co-occurring conditions.

Their detoxification program allows you to safely withdraw from opioids, alcohol, and other substances under close medication supervision. A multidisciplinary team of providers will help you navigate every step of withdrawal, intervening as required to improve client comfort, minimize cravings, and lower the risk of relapse and other potential complications. After detox is complete, you’ll transition into residential services.

Their residential treatment program helps you begin their addiction recovery in a safe, supportive, and sober environment away from the distractions and temptations of home. You’ll undergo individualized assessments to help providers better understand their current health condition and recommend appropriate treatments. Some available services include individual and group counseling, recovery-focused education, life skills training, medical and psychiatric services, and case management.

Their aftercare program may include referrals to local, community-based providers that can offer longer term recovery support through medical services, transitional housing, job training, food assistance, and other resources.

American Behavioral Health Systems accepts most private insurance plans. Speak to your individual provider to verify your coverage as out of network benefits may vary.

American Behavioral Health Systems is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

I went here 5 months ago. I had never been to a rehab or anything of the sort and didn't want to go but did it to save my family. It was a shock to the system at first but by the time I left I was beyond grateful for the new lease on life they provided me with. The staff was excellent considering what they have to put up with. You can't judge a place like this by its patients because it's always changing. You get people who don't want to be there, are there only because the court ordered them to, some people who check themselves in willingly (like me) and some who want to be there because they have nowhere else to go. They did great work on finding people housing for when they complete the program and many of the classes are pretty decent. Watching myself and those around me change over the course of a month was fascinating. If you put in the work, get over yourself and don't try to be smarter than everyone you have a chance to actually change your life. I believe it saved my life. I have been clean and sober since. Some people take multiple attempts and that's ok to, were all on different paths but the key is to just try. Just listen. Whatever you were doing clearly isn't working so you need to try something new. I went from having my first ever panic attack when I got there to laughing harder and more often than I had in years with those people I met and bonded with. Now with that said, it isn't going to be easy, its going to suck a bit but do you really deserve some high end rehab center? Those places are vacations for rich people taking a break from their addictions. This place is here to help break you a little and give you a chance to start fresh.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs support clients as they focus on maintaining their sobriety after intensive (often inpatient) treatment. These programs adhere to a model of life-long recovery, addressing addiction disease as a chronic, relapsing condition. Rehab aftercare services vary widely based on the specific and evolving needs of the client, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, and 12 step program induction. Clients, case managers, and care teams typically collaborate on long-term care plans.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

I was a patient here and could not have had a better experience. Counselors and staff were the best and actually went out of their way to help, comfort, treat etc. I can t say enough. If I had to do it all over again (which I won t) I d do it there. Thank you to Eddie, Mary, Mike (who did the most), Cade, Michelle, Mercedes, Joe, Jessica, Jess, Stacy, Mike etc. and if I didn t mention your name or misspelled it, oops! but I appreciate how all of you treated me while there. With dignity and respect. Thank you

I'm coming up on 9 months clean, no thanks to this place. I used on the way from detox to the facility, and while that wasn't the best decision, as a member of a 12 step program I do not mock my brothers for their mistakes. I was constantly mocked behind my back for that relapse, mocked for how I acted while intoxicated (I wasn't rude to anyone, I kept entirely to myself) and treated with a condescending attitude by not only those who were in the program but also one of the staff members (that I know of). I agree entirely with the numerous people who have left 1 star reviews that he was acting like a spiteful child.I decided I couldn't stay sober in an environment that was not supportive, and I left for ABHS in Spokane, a far more professional and mature facility. Thank God not every program is as pathetic as ss2, because if I hadn't tried out another treatment center I probably wouldn't be here today. You're messing with people's lives, your staff act like bratty toddlers, and they have a lot of work to do if they want to reach the bare minimum of what is expected of people in recovery, and that's not even mentioning the work they have to do if they want to be taken seriously as professionals. And no, the canned responses from whatever corporate robot you have replying to negative reviews is not helping your case.

Spent 30 days in this Rehab facility. I learned a lot about myself, and the things that I can do to stop my cravings. Some of the MHT's that stood out to me as good were: Sara, Kylie, Bruce, and Eddy. There are some issues with the programming. The state paid for me, and if I paid myself I would be upset with the lack of outdoor time, lack of smoke breaks, late groups, as well as the lack of communication staff have with each other. For example, we petitioned lunch and dinner to be a 30 minute smoke break. This is because due to Covid protocol not everyone could eat at the same time. However, this wasn't shared to a lot of staff members, so it created some arguments.Overall, the facility is quite run down, but the staff, including Christina, and Mary as counselors help you quite a lot. There are some things that you learn such as routine, DBT, and various coping skills to help out.I would recommend this treatment for people that are suffering, but it wouldn't be my #1, I'd say it would be my #4.

So I went here and was treated like a inmate at a jail. Most of the staff and this care team jackas* named Manny violated hippa laws and are very unprofessional and act like children. They are not Trained properly. They have addicts that have been clean a year working there that have all the same addict tendencies. Example. They stole Suboxone from me. I went to a local outpatient facility and without an ROI one of the people there said things that only a staff member from ABHS would know. They violated my rights. Don't go here unless you are homeless and need a place to stay. If you have money. Go to a better treatment facility. . You don't want to deal with there behavior. There are only a few good people that work there. . It's the worse treatment facility I have ever been to. DO NOT GO HERE. I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE. YOU ARE JUST A CASH COW TO THEM

new people on the inside that were frequently getting sold drugs in the facility. They were strong drugs and very accessible this is a huge problem for anyone who's trying to get clean because of the constant flow of drugs coming into the facility.Bare bones treatment facility with staff with no training what so ever and no sympathy for people having issues they are not equipped to deal with mental health issues and should be upfront about this there are some good staff there but they are overshadowed by completely insane policies and the other 90% of staff not knowing what s going on what so ever also most of the male staff and especially Travis the clinical director seem to have little man syndrome and whenever anything done exactly how they ask they will explode abs and attack whoever is on the receiving end lastly the counselors to my knowledge have no formal education maybe a certification but no college is needed to be a counselor responsible for peoples lives at this facility
