Great place for veterans! The work they're doing is saving lives. It was a safe haven at a low point in my life and I'm sure they will continue to do the same for others. God bless you!
About Alston Wilkes Society – Rehabilitation Services
Known warmly as “Soda City”, Columbia, South Carolina is home to Alston Wilkes Society – Rehabilitation Services. Established in 1962, this nonprofit organization originally assisted adults returning from statewide correctional facilities. Today, they serve as a pillar of support for adults in the criminal justice system, youth experiencing barriers, veterans and people experiencing homelessness.
Their Residential Reentry Centers provide a secure living space for people with federal offenses. This program offers continuous monitoring and support, including food, housing, and case management services. You’ll benefit from substance abuse counseling as well as life skills training, anger management, cultural diversity training and financial management classes.
What stands out most to me is their success rates. Their programs have contributed to the low recidivism rate in South Carolina. They strive to help you reach recovery and improve other essential factors to sustain it. You’ll benefit from ongoing support and encouragement to achieve your recovery goals and become a thriving member of society.
Another thing that caught my eye is their approach. Treatment is often a better alternative to incarceration for many. Diving deep into the root of your addiction and legal challenges can help you identify and change your behaviors. You can access the tools to grow in recovery while preventing reoffences.
I also like that they offer financial management classes. Finances can create many barriers, especially when you’re reentering society. They help you understand the significance of managing debt, budgeting and making informed financial decisions. That way, you can leave their program with a new perspective on finances and the confidence to build financial security.

Other Forms of Payment
Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.
Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.
Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world.
