About Alpha Home – Outpatient

Alpha Home has an outpatient clinic in San Antonio, Texas. It’s a nonprofit drug and alcohol addiction treatment program. Men and women can participate in their general outpatient program (OP). Alpha Home is a spiritually based program rooted in the whole person treatment through the 12 Step model.

Not everyone needs the high level of care of an inpatient or residential program, and it isn’t always easy for clients to step away from their responsibilities long enough for those (typically long) programs. OP at Alpha House accommodates those who have already completed a higher level of care as well as newcomers. The program lasts anywhere between four and six months.
Alpha House’s strength is in its use of the 12 Step model. This method adds elements of socialization, peer support, and personal responsibility to traditional group therapy. Clients in OP are also encouraged to join support groups outside of treatment to strengthen their recovery skills. Socialization and peer support play big roles in recovery, and Alpha House’s program makes full use of this fact.

Alpha Home’s Outpatient Rehab Program is for clients in need of treatment who have the skills and support to recover without residential care. The average length of stay is four to six months and will vary based on individual client needs and circumstances.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step icon12-Step

Alpha Home encourages clients to participate in Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, or Cocaine Anonymous meetings as an adjunct to their treatment and hosts such meetings to facilitate participation. Their treatment program affirms the best practices of and are routinely informed by the “Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment: A Research-Based Guide,” published by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

The Alpha Home Alumnae Association is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to assist and mentor women in recovery, to help women stay in recovery by providing resources to meet their recovery goals, to offer continued support through fellowship, and to present opportunities to serve and enrich their communities.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I got sent here from the center detox I liked it there better than alpha. The girls there are like girls in high and prison mixed together but that's only the beginning first off your better going cold turkey than to be totally isolated from your family and friends or people or at least comfortable around they say its voluntary but they bully you and make you feel like you have no other choice but to stay where your pretty much alone the girls all clique up everyone in your business or trys too be the counselors suck they make everyone else story your story i had literally run away from there tik tok has better recovery tools than this place

I stayed at Alpha House to help recover from the loss of my daughter and my addiction to alcohol. The environment here is like being in a prison. The counselors allow the girls to bully other girls making their recovery even more traumatizing. the girls are like vultures when it s dinner time, trampling each other to get food. I was thrown out on the street without anywhere to go simply because I was trying to stop two pregnant girls whom were still using from fighting.I hope that whoever runs this charity will investigate the counselors and the unlivable situation that it provides creating more trauma for people trying to heal from their trauma.

This program was pretty easy to follow the only problem was the staff. The main issue was my counselor, her name was Valerie Castro. Me and other ladies that had her as a counselor were really disappointed with the extreme and harsh punishments that she would give us. She is really a very bad insensitive person. I believe that she should not be able to treat her clients this way. She discourages recovery and completion on the program because she will give the worst punishments without taking the clients point of view into consideration. Due to her being my counselor unfortunately I had a terrible experience.

It had it's moments but if your determined to receive the help and do better it will work. Also suggest aftercare therapy too. Clean since 4/1/21. I was losing everything fast and now things in my life and turned around. Takes work.

I meant to do a review as soon as I left but life gets busy so here s a review from my stay at Alpha Home . The program itself works if you work it . The best part about this place would have to be the counselors. Some of the staff try their best to assist but some also pick and choose. This is definitely for the strong because it ll have you wanting to run but it definitely gets better if you really want the help . No matter if you re there for probation or because you really need it , you will definitely come out with a different mindset I mean I came out with a different mindset . I don t believe I would have made it through if it wasn t for the counselors mine most importantly made an impact and broke my shell a some and their teachings are great. Amber is also a great leader there at the home and she doesn t sugarcoat which is in my opinion best. My stay at Alpha was 90days not gonna lie I caught covid there and have a few things come up missing . So one stay healthy and 2 don t take anything to valuable in and call ahead to know what you can and can not take. Since my departure I ve learned better communication and how to show emotions sober without alcohol. The 3 the overall rate the counselors deserve 5stars strictly for the counselors. If I could have done outpatient I would have rather than have stayed but to each it s own and good luck to everyone trying to better there life you are worth it and life isn t over when you re sober

I wish I could rate this place a 0. It took a week to get a response. When I did get the response I had to deal with a very condescending person. She was rude and spoke to me like I was a bothering her.
