About Alpena Regional Hospital Center

Alpena Regional Hospital Center is a comprehensive multi departmental hospital in Alpena, Michigan. The center includes a behavioral health department where they treat addiction and mental illness.

This hospital is a lot like most hospitals you’re familiar with where they have departments for different specialties like cardiology and women’s health. Within the behavioral health department, though, they have inpatient and outpatient treatment for mental illness and drug and alcohol addiction. With such a strong mental health program, this is an especially good prospect for people who have dual diagnosis. That means you are experiencing a substance use disorder as well as one or more mental health conditions.

Your treatment here is individualized to what you need for your one of a kind recovery journey. The facility is part of the expansive University of Michigan Health system, too, so if they don’t have the specific level of care you need here, or if you need different levels of care at different times in your recovery journey, they’ll be able to coordinate your care with the right facility.

Wife is in extream pain and they won't even give her anything for pain as we wait hours in waiting room area. I offered to call 911 so she could get in faster and was told they would still just put in waiting room area. Alpena ER is and has always been a joke but I guess it's all we have.

APDWhen a APD brought me in that is when I waited in the lobby for over an hour and a half. With an arithmic heart rate and a dangerously high blood pressure. Approximately an hour to the point the officer asked the receptionist "are we going to get some help" as he could see it my torso move up and down quickly with my heart rate. Approximately an hour and a half into the wait. Officer had to leave because it was taking so long. Thus leaving me there to seek treatment. As on a misdemeanor driving without a license charge. I was eventually seen. And left.ACSDeputy brought me in nurse was there we were seeing right away. Upon checking my blood pressure it was dangerously high. I slightly lean forward to look at it and was worried. Nurse said it was high because I leaned forward and it mess with the equipment. I said I don't know about that. He then said sit back shut your mouth he also stated that he was a cop for 25 years. He then said your blood sugar is probably high checked it. It was he then went and got me a Coca-Cola and told me to drink it. About 20 minutes later they come in and check it again. My blood sugar was down. However my blood pressure was still pretty high. This was not the right treatment with that dangerously high of a blood pressure should have immediately been placed on IV medication and taken to a room. I was treated like absolute garbage. I was being called polite cool not causing any issues. I was also given a chemical test and tested negative for illicit drugs.Walk-INI came in by myself to be treated. After two prior incidents. The same nurse was there. I requested a different nurse. They told me no and then proceeded to call the police on me. The cops ended up leaving leaving me to seek treatment. No more than one minute after I sat a triage room the same nurse came in to change the garbage mumbling cuss words under his breath the whole time instigating me so me feeling threatened and honestly and fear for my life not knowing what's going on I left this is absolutely criminal what happened to me I cannot believe you of them puts their name on this hospital I've tried to reach out to administrators and they call me back two weeks later and don't leave a message I pray to God somebody from corporate sees this because I can prove it all and now I have arrhythmia issues with my heart

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

I took my fiance in there on the 25th of September. They made her wait 45 minutes in the waiting room knowing she needed oxygen which I had some. They finally got her back there and then they went to strap her down and I told him if you would do that you're going to cost her a heart attack. And that's exactly what the bastards did. She flatline five times they kept her there two and a half weeks knowing they couldn't do a damn thing to help her. they didn't send her down to the Midland hospital until the final overdoser on morphine. I wouldn't go to one of these damn hospitals if I was bleeding to death. They basically murdered my wife to be. I love you Cindy

DO NOT GO HERE PLEASE. If I could rate 0, I would. This was the worse experience I've ever had at an E.R. I came in with what I know now to be a 10.2cm cyst on my left ovary and a 5cm cyst on my right. They prescribed me Norco for between now my surgery date, but sent it to the wrong pharmacy. I have never been prescribed anything like it, but I've been treated like an addict by all the staff. They can not transfer it due to the rules around narcotics. They won't even rewrite it locally even after having the pharmacy THEY SENT IT TO call them to confirm that it was cancelled and never picked up. They said the only way for me to get it or anything else is to be re-evaluated.
