About Alano Club

Alano Club is a nonprofit organization in Santa Barbara, California. They offer support group meetings for individuals dealing with substance abuse challenges. They follow the 12 Step model of recovery.

Alano Club organizations serve their communities through peer-led support meetings, with 35 meetings happening each week in Santa Barbara alone. Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Staff is poorly trained. Staff can be verbally abusive. Risk of assault by other patients is very high.

In spite of being listed as handicapped accessible, the front doors are rarely unlocked on both sides making ingress and egress difficult, if not impossible. The rear doors do not open from the outside plus the ramp is impassable due to being obstructed by steps to the rear deck. Best 2 select another mt'g that is handicapped accessible.

Mice historic building which, unfortunately, is home to a number of rodents. These offer some entertainment to the brave-hearted, less so to the faint of heart. One rat is known to perform acrobatics by crawling on a wire suspended high over the main floor. One precaution would be to cover your coffee cup to avoid aerial bombardment. Not the place to enjoy fine food."Old building" is not the problem. The lack of maintenance is. Sealing the holes, which the rats come thru. is the first step. To date, this has not been done. Mouse traps, while useful for the purpose they were designed for, are less effective than rat traps and should be used only in addition to rat traps. Management claims, as a sign of success, that only young rats are being caught. Others would conclude that the young rats come from old rats that are smart enough to avoid traps.Snacks, in the canteen, may now be in plastic boxes, however rats urinate and defecate everywhere including on the tops of the plastic boxes. Rats, and the fleas they carry, are known carriers of numerous diseases.

Hello Paul, unfortunately rodents love old buildings. We had a cat for awhile but it has found a new home. We regularly set out mouse traps and clean the place daily. All prepackaged food we do sell is now kept in closed plastic containers.

Manager, Ken Chapple, has issues with members of the opposite sex, overfriendliness being the major one. Several persons have complained about that over the past several years. Good place to avoid.April 24, 2018 updateStill a good place to avoid. Current board president has few, if any, social skills. Fortunately, he has been markedly absent from the club after being bitten by a dog in Las Vegas. The dog died.

Sorry about your experiences with past management. The Club has undergone a complete change over with a new Board of Directors and the new manager is a really nice guy. We invite you to come give the Alano club a new chance in the future.
