To start, I am someone who has to live everyday by working to manage my several diagnoses... I will always need psychiatric medication and that's ok!I was facing new and extreme insurance issues that prevented me from getting very important psychiatric medication that I've been on for years. Mountain Lakes went above and beyond. In a very scary time for me...)pay $700/mo for one rx which was unfeasible..or be checked into the hospital)... They picked me up and took me to my appts and worked with the insurance company for months until they got my medicine covered! I also felt I wasn't heard during my psych eval and felt I had an additional diagnosis. After a year of therapy and psychiatrist appts, they did amend my diagnosis..they listened to me and had evidence to back their diagnosis. They did right by me. Sarah Dettweiler is the psychiatrist I have been seeing and she's very good at what she does..she's calm and very nice..not intimidating and listens! Brenda..I had an episode at her when I was waiting for my medicine and this sweet lady was always very very nice. Also I had a few counselors I wasn't happy with and they switched me to Brittany...she's truly the best I've ever had. I feel my care is safe in their hands and I trust them!

In my experience they do everything they can with limited funding. There actually is a lot of red tape when it comes to Medicaid, Medicare, the rights of an individual. It's a part of the Alabama Department of Mental Health. On Mondays they are available for any new intakes. There are three offices in each county - Cherokee, Etowah, DeKalb (C.E.D.) And, I believe Etowah would be the more convoluted of the three since Etowah has a much larger population than Cherokee and Dekalb.I imagine that when an emergency/crisis arises they have to drop everything and focus on those people that are on the verge of harming themselves and/or others. I can also imagine these emergencies can happen at a moment's notice and it may not be only one at a given time. That one office in Attalla serving for Etowah is providing mental health services to area with a population of over 100,000 people.

This place is lovely. They are excellent at working with your insurance and helping you to get the most out your time in treatment. The staff are very warm and supportive and do everything they can to make life easier for you while you are there. Really, this place provides quality of care way above and beyond the norm for this level of care, while allowing you both great freedom and supportive structure. If you are looking for a place that feels like home (only probably more stable), this is the place for you. They always make sure you have transportation available, which is great for people who don t have cars. They let you work and build community and they don t give up on people easily. The location is great, the housing is great, and the staff are amazing. The maximum stay is six months although I guess they make exceptions. They have alumni activities and you are always welcome to return once you graduate.Five stars. And believe me, I know my treatment centers.
