About Al Anon and Al Ateen Intergrupal
Al Anon and Al Ateen Intergrupal are community-based support groups in Pittsburg, California. Each provides spaces of healing and connection for the families and loved ones of those experiencing alcohol and drug addiction. People can attend Al-Anon and Al-Ateen regardless of whether their loved one has sought treatment in an alcohol or drug rehab.
Al-Anon holds global peer support meetings for adults who’ve been affected by a loved one’s drug or alcohol addiction. These meetings are safe spaces where people can share their stories and receive support from others fighting similar battles. Al-Ateen offers adolescents and young people the same opportunity to seek healing from their experiences.
Al-Anon and Al-Ateen utilize a modified version of the Twelve Step Principles used in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The Twelve Steps are a tool for spiritual growth that emphasizes healing the whole person. This holistic approach encourages physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being. Members are not required to affiliate with a specific religion but are instead encouraged to seek healing from a higher power of their choice. Al-Anon and Al-Ateen hold multiple daily meetings year-round in most communities, including on holidays.
Al-Anon and Al-Ateen programs are free. Still, members may be peer-referred for paid addiction, mental health, or medical recovery services. Major insurance companies, like Cigna, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, and others, may cover the costs of these services. Out-of-network benefits can vary, so it’s best to contact your provider to verify your benefits.

Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
