I wrote a review many months ago, and I am changing it to reflect my experiences since then. I was a patient of Dr. Patel and I saw him for many years, many years to long. I regret not moving sooner. I felt pretty gaslit by him in many different ways, and it wasn't until a major medical mistake by him that I left. I have realized some of the things that happened with him that were highly unethical, nearly illegal, and I want to caution anyone reading this review in meeting with him. He does not work with complex conditions, he does not work in dual diagnosis, he does not work with trauma. Copy and paste method with everyone. If any of that applies to you, seek help elsewhere. Save yourself or your child from being overmedicated, gaslit, and blamed for medication not working. Trust your gut, stay away. Front desk staff is rude and of absolutely no help.

As far as I can tell this organization simply cares that you can pay your bill and doesn't really care about your child. I had issues with insurance and a rough patch and I eventually paid the bill and they told me that I was out of luck. Once you have been late in paying them, they won't see your child again.Every business is entitled to run their organization how they want. This was just a huge indicator on what they really care about. If AFG would like to comment and say otherwise, please do.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients in outpatient rehab receive a variety of services based on their unique and evolving needs. Typical outpatient treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients recovering from alcohol and/or opioid dependency. Clients exiting inpatient treatment or those who are at an elevated risk of relapse may engage in more robust treatment, such as intensive outpatient (IOP) programming.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Loved ones can utilize a drug intervention in Illinois to help with addressing a family member's problematic substance use. The goal of the intervention is to educate the individual about the negative effects of their substance use and encourage them to accept professional treatment. Intervention services can help families initiate this conversation and plan appropriate follow-up care, such as inpatient or outpatient rehab.

Treatments

Drug rehabs often provide treatment for people seeking help for both mental health and substance abuse. The programs are usually offered on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Each personalized treatment plan includes a number of different mental health therapies and services, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), experiential therapies (equine and animal therapy, outdoor therapy groups, and individual / group counseling sessions designed to simultaneously address both mental health and substance abuse. Standard treatment modalities include relapse prevention education and emotional coping skills training.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Men and women in Illinois learn to recognize their strengths and capabilities within a group therapy setting. This helps to boost their self image and self confidence as they work toward overcoming addiction and building a healthier life. Group therapy is a perfect environment for you to see successful recovery behaviors and become inspired to manage your addiction.

During one on one therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction, you and your therapist work collaboratively to develop effective relapse prevention plans and improve your self awareness. This helps address your specific needs, including the effectiveness of several evidence based treatment modalities that may work best for you.

Trauma therapy provides you with a safe and supportive environment so you can address a traumatic experience. Your therapist helps guide you to understand your emotional, mental, and physical responses while developing healthier coping skills. This helps to improve your emotional resilience and ability to function in the community.

Family therapy helps to rebuild trust and strengthen relationships that have been affected by addiction. Therapists use guided interventions to help families improve their interactions and address underlying issues that impact their relationships. This helps create a supportive atmosphere for the recovery process.

Life skills training in Illinois gives you the tools you need to meet daily demands. These fall into three main categories: personal skills, interpersonal skills, and cognitive skills. While in rehab, you'll work on each of these areas as part of your recovery treatment.

There are not enough words to express how wonderful this office is. When faced with 12-14 months of waiting to get my daughter in for an evaluation anywhere in Illinois, we found AFG Guidance Center and traveled from Central Illinois to Chicago two months later for two days worth of appointments, and it was the best experience. We finally feel that we are getting the answers needed in order to help our daughter succeed.

I called to inquire if this practice was accepting new patients. The receptionist was very unfriendly and unhelpful. She curtly said "nope" and when I asked her if she had other suggestions for a desperate family to turn to she shortly said, "don't know." Zero empathy, zero concern, zero regrets expressed for not being able to help. Very unprofessional and exacerbated my feelings of helplessness as a concerned parent who can't find medical professional to help.

The doctors are quite knowledgeable and helpful. The secretarial service leaves much to be desired: their patronizing tone and tactless remarks can be extremely off-putting.
