About Parkview Behavioral Health Institute – Park Center

Parkview Behavioral Health Institute – Park Center is a nonprofit community based health system in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They welcome adults battling addiction and mental health conditions. You’ll have access to several types of addiction treatment including residential, intensive outpatient, standard outpatient services and aftercare. They offer flexible payment options including private insurance, self pay, Medicaid and Medicare. You may also be eligible for financial assistance depending on your situation.

Their programs are available to all but prioritize certain high risk populations. They strive to serve pregnant women first along with clients who inject substances. If you fit into these populations then they aim to provide admission and treatment within 48 hours of inquiry.

They’ll work with you to help you find care that best fits your situation. Each program offers proven therapeutic interventions in group and individual sessions. You can also participate in specialized medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction.

One thing that stands out to me is their intensive outpatient program’s phases of care. You’ll start by focusing on addiction education to understand the contributing factors to your situation and build self-esteem, self-awareness and essential interpersonal skills. The next phase implements therapeutic intervention to bring awareness to how addiction has affected you and your loved ones and empower you to make changes. Aftercare is the last step. This phase provides free ongoing support and assists you with applying what you’ve learned to sustain recovery.

Another key feature is their emphasis on family inclusion. They strongly encourage the active participation of your loved ones in your journey. I love this approach because they recognize that addiction doesn’t just affect the individual. Including your family in treatment provides a safe space to learn, heal and grow together.

I saw a Dr. K for 2 years, I missed one appointment, you treated me like I was a drug addict and told me to walk in to get an ongoing prescription that I needed. This should be illegal. Don t write comments on my post and delete it.

There are some good people here, like Rebecca Haynes and Valerie Rumple, but there s also some people like Karen Lothamer, who just completely disregard any input from the patient. Karen insisted I take a regimen of medicines that: A) I told her does not work for me and sent me into panic attacks B) the pharmacist warned me should never be mixed together C) my Medicaid would not cover because they shouldn t be mixed together D) a combination even I, the patient told her should not be combined, yet she treated me, and acted as though I were the one, who didn t know what I was talking about. That woman should be fired (my personal opinion), but I have a feeling, I m not the only one who thinks so.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides intensive, round-the-clock care and is designed primarily for clients who have just completed detox, those in early recovery, and those at an increased risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment typically includes extensive psychotherapy that draws on various modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Clients also learn the recovery-focused life skills needed to promote sustained recovery. Many inpatient drug rehabs also offer evidence-based holistic therapies like meditation, yoga, massage, and experiential therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Persons who require high-level support but who do not wish to leave their homes or communities may enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Clients typically commit to a minimum of nine treatment hours across three therapeutic sessions per week, but many programs offer up to 20 hours of care weekly. Most intensive outpatient rehabs provide a combination of psychotherapy, recovery education, and holistic care. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is widely available for those in alcohol or opioid recovery.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

To function properly, your body must have nutritional balance. Addiction throws off this balance by depleting your body of essential nutrients. Nutrition therapy aims to restore this balance by providing a healthy diet that supports healing and long term sobriety.

Unprofessional and disrespectful staff, I don't think they realize the importance they have in this process, I think they don't care about your recovery, they want the money.

I went here a year ago and still remember that it was pretty cool. They helped me a lot and gave good advice to continue my next step in life. I got a job and i'm now 11 months sober, which is a great success to me.

The call center schedules for a full 2-hour appointment. You spend an hour and a half waiting. And have to schedule for the remainder of the appointment. They messed up so bad that with a 730am appointment, we finally walked out right before noon after talking to a condescending supervisor.

It's almost impossible to get services started in a swift manner. They are severely understaffed and it shows with rushed appointments (even though patients are often left waiting well after their appointment time), rude receptionists, and lack of communication with patients. As Parkview continues it's monopolization of healthcare in this area, it's only going to get worse. Parkview needs to treat patients like people and not just a number.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Miranda, we encourage you to connect with a patient advocate so we can discuss your care concerns in more detail. You can contact them at 855-392-3648 or PPG-Patient-Advocate@parkview.com.

This place does not care at all about you. They canceled my appt without telling me until I get there, made me wait 3 hours to write up a refill on a prescription that they never filled. a month later come to find it was never filled called it in right away with 2 pills left, no response, called again next day pretty much said they will get to it when they get to it. now today going into severe withdraw on the medication extremely sick and they still said they will get to it when they can! do not go here!!!

I would give 0 stars of I could. My son (12) was taking counseling, at the initial evaluation the counselor( Liaamia M.) wanted my son to see someone who she thought was more qualified. He seen Erin maybe 4 times at the most, she called that she had to reschedule his appointment and then wouldn't even be at the building for the follow up she scheduled. Erin left then my son got transferred back to Liaamia M. where she made it clear she didn't want to see my son because he seems fine(even though this is only the 2nd time she had talked/seen him). When I requested that he transfer to a different counselor Liaamia M. called me and kept INSISTING that no one in the office will be comfortable meeting with him because he seemed fine and he didn't want to be there. I felt pressured to cancel his medical appointment(which he waited for over 6 months) and find him another facility to help him because I feel that Liaamia M. would purposely go to the other counselor's and tell them anything for them to not see my son out of spite. Just plain horrible. The only good thing is the receptionist was very kind and understanding.
