About AA – Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a community-based, 12 step-focused addiction recovery program for youth and adults in Dothan, Alabama. They offer no-cost outpatient services, including gender-specific and dedicated programming for LGBTQ+ persons, adolescents, young adults, seniors, and persons with co-occurring disorders.
Clients engage in robust, peer-directed group counseling based on the 12 step-focused, stages-of-change model. Meetings are free, anonymous, open to the public, and accessible 365 days a year, including evening, night, weekend, and holiday sessions. Clients also receive one-on-one peer coaching through a self-selected sponsor.
Clients participate in extensive recovery education to support whole-person recovery, including physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual healing. Recovery-focused life skills training may address topics such as coping, self-care, wellness, and relapse prevention.
All meetings and education programs provided by AA are free. However, referrals for additional medical and mental health services may be offered by peers and sober coaches. Many treatment providers accept major insurance plans, such as Aetna, Cigna, BlueCross BlueShield, and others. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug rehab in Alabama provides medical or psychotherapeutic treatment for drug dependency. Methods of treatment often include a combination of medication, counseling, and recreational therapies.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
