Women who have served in the Armed Forces are eligible for a variety of veterans benefits. VA actively encourages women to utilize the benefits due them. Social Work offers counseling — to veterans with drug, alcohol, and emotional problems, to help veterans and their families understand and adjust to an illness or disability, to veterans and family members who want to prepare advance directives and durable powers of attorney for health care or finances, to help veterans and their families cope with terminal illness, mental illness, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries, to family members about legal issues such as commitment and guardianship.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Group Theraphy

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

The Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center staff is dedicated to providing evidence-based treatment services to veterans and employees who are considering making changes related to their tobacco use. Staff members at McGuire understand that quitting tobacco use is challenging. Most Veterans make multiple attempts to quit before finally staying quit. They understand this process and work with each Veteran to individualize treatment. They collaborate with each Veteran to find the most effective path to assist with this process. Available options include group therapy, individual therapy, and medications.

My opthamology tech was very knowledgeable and helpful. She advised me on future appointments and when I'm doing upgrade. She went over and beyond for me. I really enjoyed the appointments at the VA Clinic just don't mind them at all. Thankful they are there for me. Her name is Denise so shout out girl I think you're awesome. Thanks for fixing my right hearing aid I'll try not to break it again LOL

I go to VA 2 Clinic. The staff has always been exceptionally nice and helpful. And the care has been as good as I've received in both the Military system and Civilian. I'd highly recommend this team.

Update: 12.12.23I just found out how it works, thru someone at the call center.You will get an appt with a new provider WHEN your old provider says you should have another appt.I called in and got an appt for Dec. This gal who called me said " I see it's for Dec. But they weren't supposed to give you one until your current provider said you should come back in. You shouldn't have gotten an appointment until February."I wrote to NP Bowling about a mammogram referral that has expired, so I need a new one, and asking her to take off medicine I was prescribed by a harried nurse in Phoenix for a problem I never had.Also asking why physical therapists get my ENTIRE health history on a referral.CLEARLY she doesn't want to deal with patients that have questions. She PUSHED to get me another provider.***The star is for Stephanie, the gal that draws blood. She is excellent at her job.NP Bowling will not answer questions about blood tests, will not do her job. She has pushed me to another provider at massaponax. Which is fine with me. I prefer a group of people that don't give excuses & answer questions.My blood test was 9/28. I have yet to receive a hard copy of it. I have yet to receive directions on what to do about some of the results on the blood test. I had to write in to get anyone to call me, and this is 3 weeks later. The nurse, Tina, ARGUED with me saying that they don't get alarmed at things that are two or three points off in a blood test. Yet, they told me to quit taking vitamin D because it was high.I lived in Phoenix. This place is worse than Phoenix. Phoenix was actually good for me. I never had a problem at Phoenix.

I had an appointment get cancelled and did NOT find out until I had arrived. The person was rude and told me they were limited on what they could say in voicemails.Today, I find out a release form I dropped off on October 2 for my provider has been lost. I will give it directly to my provider since the reception desk is clearly incompetent.

HORRIBLE. It's a good thing I am not dying. I can NEVER get anyone to answer the phone to make appointments. What a horrible way to treat us Veterans. Makes me want to travel all the way to Richmond....This is horrible. I just cannot believe it. Seems that I need to get my Congressman involved to fix this.

It's a pretty small clinic, but it doesn't feel overcrowded, and I have had very good experiences with the doctors, nurses, and lab techs. Getting an actual appointment, however, can take a month or longer (probably because of its size). ALWAYS remember to schedule your next appointment at the checkout window BEFORE you leave!!!

The VA should be ashamed for how this location is ran. Scheduling appointments for this location is a joke and the customer service is nonexistent. Showed up and checked in on the kiosk for bloodwork as soon as they opened (0700), and after waiting for 20 minutes I finally asked the receptionist if they were even open since no one greeted me while I was waiting in the waiting area. The receptionist told me to check in at the kiosk. I explained to her that I already did in which she then told me to just have a seat. Finally after waiting another 5 minutes I left since this was wasting my time and I had to get to work.Later that same day I showed up for my actual appointment with the doctor and checked in again. This time a different lady from before actually greeted me and asked for my insurance card. She made a copy, handed it back to me, and asked me to have a seat and that the nurse would be right with me. Almost an hour later I went back up to the counter to ask what's going on. A different receptionist looked me up and said that my appointment was canceled as the doctor has been out all week due to sickness! He said they left a voice mail inbox but I have nothing in my voice mail informing me of a cancelation. The only thing I had was a voicemail from them requesting that I come in early for lab work.I refuse to step foot in that place ever again. Save your time and mental health and proceed to another location. This isn't how anyone, let alone vets, should be treated.

The costumer service isn't great. You have to keep calling them in order to schedule an appointment. When attempting to schedule one, they place a request to receive a call back within 24- 48 hours and I didn't receive one until the following week (7 days). I am now at three weeks trying to schedule an appointment and nothing. I attempted to call back and then was hung up on. I don't understand why it is so hard to schedule an appointment. At this point, driving to Richmond doesn't sound too bad.

This place is confusing. I called and tried to transfer VA clinics they said I need to do it in person or FAX them my PHI... The main lobby is just an elevator with no receptionists, if you ask people in other parts of the building where do I go to transfer from my old VA clinic to here they say online or I don't know.

The new clinic is clean and very nice; however, the customer service leaves much to be desired. I had called and asked to have my pcm put in a refill for a prescription. I received a phone call three weeks later basically demanding to set an appointment on a certain day and time within a few days without even asking if that would work. I told the person I was on a business meeting and would have to call her back and she just kept talking over me. I finally told her I had to go and would call her back to schedule. I called back right after my meeting (within 20 minutes) and spoke to someone else who told me that an appointment had been made for me without my knowledge or permission and then when I told her that would not work she told me that the appointment options given by the previous person (in person, telephonic, video) were not available. I was finally able to get her to set me an appointment that actually worked for my schedule (as they wanted it within a week of them calling me which is ridiculous if you have to give notice to an employer). I was then told I would have to get lab work done prior to my appointment. I asked what time the lab opened and was told 0630. I specifically confirmed this twice and told her that I had to be at work at my new job by 0730. I went to the new location this morning and was told the lab does not open until 0700. How frustrating!!! Those making appointments and providing customer service really need to know the hours for the location they are making appointments for. There was an elderly man that came in after me and the person at the desk was rude in how she spoke to him as well. The only part of the visit that did not disappoint was the phlebotomist who was absolutely fantastic!!

The doctors and nurses that work for the VA have always provided the best care possible, but the VA system as a whole is hot steaming trash. You will wait several weeks for specialty care. Scheduling anything is a nightmare. There is absolutely no accountability.
